So somehow I missed Daredevil #4 and didn’t even realize it right away. This should’ve upset me but instead, I shrugged and figured I would continue on from Daredevil #5.

This implies that Waid’s Daredevil series can be read at random and individual issues are weak. That is not true. If anything, my complete engrossment in Daredevil #5 without even knowing I had missed #4 signifies Waid’s strength as a writer. He gave me a coherent, gripping new storyline that could’ve been enjoyable to a completely new reader but still drew just the right amount from its immediate predecessors for those who have been with the series from the beginning.

That’s it. Daredevil is officially my favorite character Marvel character. I kind of love him.

That is rather surprising as Matt Murdock walks a very fine line between being a genuinely good guy and also playing the cad. I guess that’s part of his role as man-about-town lawyer to distract people from realizing he is also, in fact, the vigilante, Daredevil; or at least to get people to stop accusing him of being Daredevil.

After the cliffhanger in the last issue, it can be argued that this issue was rather lackluster. Daredevil’s escape and subsequent fight scene was not altogether exciting and felt rather rushed. Also, the villain was silly.

If I can make a grandiose statement about all the comics I have been reading during this project, it’s that Marvel has consistently given me strong comic issues that are engaging and highly entertaining. I’m not saying there haven’t been misses with them, but what with the Avengers Academy, Red Skull: Incarnate and now Daredevil, I am definitely being converted into a Marvel fan.

I have been told to read Daredevil comics for a long time now. Apparently I would really enjoy this superhero, despite the fact that he was thoroughly butchered by Ben Affleck in that 2003 film (which, I am proud to say, I never saw). The little I knew of the guy definitely seemed interesting, such as his origin story and the fact that he’s blind. Nonetheless, I never went searching for Daredevil comics probably simply out of a lack of understanding of his history so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that Marvel relaunched Daredevil this summer. Finally, a clean break to acquaint myself with Matt Murdock!

Though this was Daredevil #1, there was definitely backstory to this issue that I probably could have used. This wasn’t so much as a relaunch as return from a long sabbatical for Matt Murdock. He is attempting to fix his reputation after being outed as Daredevil all the while denying that he is in fact, the Man Without Fear.
